VS2 with cloud

Hi there, I wonder if anyone can help me. I recently purchased a diamond from one of Cape Town's most reputable jewellers.
Its 0.81 in size, D colour, excellent cut and VS2 in clarity.
At the time of purchase the diamond it looked perfect to the naked eye.
However since getting back home, I have noticed in certain lights that there is a white 'milky looking' cloud inside the diamond. The cloud has got a 1.5mm diameter.
I wonder if anyone could tell me whether this is normal of a VS2 diamond?
I have an EGL certificate.
Also since getting back home, I have noticed that I paid over the odds for this diamond anyway.
Thank you

Hi and welcom to the forum.  For an EGL stone of those specs, having a cloud is quite normal.  Generally an EGL stones grading would be about 2 lower than GIA, which is why GIA is the preferred report.  So if EGL graded your stone D/VS2 then GIA most likely would have graded it F/SI1-SI2. If it looks ok to the naked eye, I wouldn't worry about it so much, but if it does bother you - since you purchased the stone from a "reputable jeweler", you could go back and try to exchange the stone for a GIA.  Tell them you were mislead and not happy with the advice of the sales associate and that such a reputable establishment should be willing to work with you.  However you will either have to pay out more cash or probably get a smaller diamond to get a GIA stone of high quality with grading stats comparable to the EGL stone you have now.

I totally agree with the you....
The fact is GIA is much trusted and strictest lab for diamonds..
Its quite obvious that an EGL certified diamond will have certain flaws as you mentioned!!
Next time go for a GIA certified diamond!!
