Hi cutegirl, The idea of birthstone jewlery is not to change it monthly according to the month. Rather, birthstone jewelry is linked to your birth month, and you can wear your own birth month gemstone year-round. For example, if you were born in February and your birthstone is Amethyst, you would be inclined to wear jewelry set with amethysts. Diamo |

I'd like to mention that your list has completely missed tanzanite, the latest and last addition to the official birthstone list.it can be worn alternately with blue topaz.gemfan |

Actually cutegirl, you are partly right - when the tradition of modern birthstones originated in Poland in the 16th century, people actually did switch their jewelry every month according to the birthstone. It was believed that the powers of the birthstone were heightened during its month, so were worn for good luck and protection. |

Talking about birthstones, here is some trivia: June is also know as the "Phenomenal" month - the month in which all the birthstones have a "phenomena." For example, moonstones display what we Graduate Gemologists call adularescence, or chatoyancy. Another example: pearls display iridescence. There are many other such examples including color change, the cat's eye effect and so on. However, only the June birthstones display these optical phenomena.
